What To Expect At Your Virtual Visit (eVisit)
Why virtual care?
COVID-19 is placing stress on Canada’s public health system. We are offering virtual care to make sure that we can continue to care for our patients safely and effectively. This means that we will be using video and audio technologies for some patient visits rather than asking all patients to come into our office. Some health concerns can be addressed with virtual care alone, but in some cases your doctor may ask you to visit the clinic for an urgent in person visit.
If Virtual Care isn’t for you, that’s okay! You can still postpone your visit to when the office is open again for routine care. Once we are up and running with our new protocols in place, we will be triaging in person care to reduce patient volume in office. Please be patient with us at it will take us several months to accommodate reschedules as our appointment backlog has now reached several thousand patients!
Like all technological tools there is the nitty gritty about security that should not be overlooked. For all the information on precautions and security measures please read on!

So, what can be done at an eVisit?
We can screen your vision for any changes, re-fill eye-drop prescriptions, treat dry eye or red eye conditions, review your contact lens care and most importantly ensure you are not in need of urgent in-person care.
Unfortunately, we cannot measure or re-measure glasses and contact lens prescriptions and issue new ones until we are open for in person routine care. However, if you do not have the contacts or glasses you require to see, it may be considered an emergency.
It’s amazing what technology can do for us. In order for you to attend an eVisit, you don’t need much. It is so simple. All you will need is:
- An internet connection (no need to download any new apps, just click the provided link in your confirmation e-mail!)
- A computer, phone or tablet with a web browser (like Chrome or Firefox)
- Your credit card
- Your most recent glasses
As the weeks progress, we are always finding new ways to adapt to change. Like the rest of you, we are missing our friends, family and patients every day. We wanted to find a way to be more accessible to all our patients and we are proud to let you know that now our clinic is able provide care virtually!
Details regarding eVisits and virtual care
Just like online shopping or email, Virtual Care has some inherent privacy and security risks that your health information may be intercepted or unintentionally disclosed. We want to make sure you understand this before we proceed. In order to improve privacy and confidentiality, please take steps to participate in this virtual care encounter in a private setting. Also, ensure that you are not using an employer’s or someone else’s computer/device as they may be able to access your information.
Despite our new stringent disinfection and cleaning protocols, visiting a health care provider in person increases the risk of coming into contact with COVID-19 and the possibility of spreading the virus. For this reason, we are now offering this service. We do our best to make sure that any information you provide us during virtual care visits is private and secure, but no video or audio tools are ever completely secure. There is an increased security risk that your health information may be intercepted or disclosed to third parties when using video or audio communications tools.
By providing your information, you agree to let us collect, use, or disclose your personal health information through video or audio communications (while following applicable privacy laws) in order to provide you with care. In particular, the following means of electronic communication may be used: doxy.me videoconferencing platform, telephone and e-mail.
