An Update: Our New Normal

From all of us at MVC, WVT and OVT, we would like to thank you for your ongoing support. This has been an exceptionally challenging time for health care and our small businesses. Over the past several weeks, we prepared our clinic in order to re-open for routine care. We have missed you and we are thrilled that we can continue serving our community as we have for the past 33 years. Patient and employee safety is at the heart of our new patient journey. Although many things have changed, what has not is our commitment to your patient experience.

Here are some of our updates:

New Hours of Operation

With over 4000 cancelled visits, we have extended our service hours to serve you better.

 Merivale Vision Care Location

Monday to Saturday 9:00am – 7:00pm

Wellington Vision Care Location

Tuesday to Friday 10:00am – 6:00pm

Saturday 10:00am – 5:00pm

Please note: Dr. Joelle Zagury will be working exclusively out of our Wellington location until physical distancing measures are lifted.

Physical Distancing

Our college return to work guidelines require that we limit the number of patients in office at any given time. All in person visits must be by appointment only including glasses selection, repairs and pick-ups. Patients will be asked to call from their car when they arrive to ensure we are not at capacity. When you arrive for your appointment, the front door will be locked. Our patient concierge will greet you and let you in when it is safe to enter.

Increased Sanitization

All surfaces, examination rooms and equipment will be thoroughly disinfected between patients using medical-grade disinfectants. All glasses that have been handled or tried on will be thoroughly disinfected as well.

Use of Masks

You will be provided with a mask and screened for COVID symptoms by our patient concierge at the door. You are encouraged to wear your own cloth mask if you are able. Doctors and staff will be wearing masks and protective eyewear. You will be asked to keep your mask on in the office. The patient concierge will help guide you through your visit.

Patient Intake

We have been asked by the Ontario College of Optometrists to collect as much information ahead of time as possible to reduce the amount of time in office. If you have an appointment booked with a doctor, you will be called or e-mailed an online health intake and COVID-19 screening questionnaire.

Online Resources

We recognize that many patients prefer to stay home and that we cannot accommodate everyone in person with physical distancing measures in place. In response, we have increased our online digital resources and services.

Virtual Telemedicine Consultation

For existing patients, ocular emergencies, follow up visits, medication prescription refills, or extending the validity of contact lens prescriptions can be done virtually, with your doctor, on our secure telemedicine platform. This has allowed us to increase patient capacity and make sure our patients have access to care.

Online Store

We have added many of our eye drops and vitamins in addition to a beautiful selection of non-prescription sunglasses on our online store. These items are available for curbside pickup at our Merivale location. You can also purchase your contact lenses with complimentary home shipping!

My scheduled annual examination (April or May) was cancelled due to COVID. Do I wait for a new appointment to be given to me or do I phone to establish a new one?
