MiYOSMART Lenses and Myopia Control

Hi Friends, welcome back to another segment with Merivale Vision Care. We are so proud to share that we can now prescribe, fit, and dispense the new MiYOSMART Lenses from Hoya Vision. The MiYOSMART lens product is designed particularly for managing near-sightedness (or myopia) in children and can help prevent the progression of myopia over time.

When children struggle to see clearly at a distance, those struggles have a negative impact on their quality of life. They can have difficulties seeing well at school and participating in their favourite activities. Today, children are spending less time outdoors, and much more time doing activities indoors where they use their gaze up close, reading, studying, and using digital devices. These near-sighted activities can lead to the progression of near-sightedness in kiddos.

A comprehensive eye exam can diagnose whether your child is near-sighted, and the sooner it can be detected the better. Myopia is associated with eyesight deterioration, so detecting it early, and using solutions to slow its progress ensures a child’s quality of vision is preserved for the long term.

MiYOSMART lenses are amazing because their design is easy to adapt to. Glasses with MiYOSMART lenses are a non-invasive option for managing near-sightedness and clinically proven to show effectiveness in slowing down myopia progression. The lenses use D.I.M.S technology (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) to ensure the prescribed power from the optometrist lands exactly a precise point in the back of the eye, ensuring your child will see very clearly. The lenses have a blurred focus in their periphery, which encourages a myopic eye to grow more slowly, which in turn slows the rate of near-sightedness. Magic!

MiYOSMART lenses come in a very impact-resistant material safe for active kids, complete with an anti-reflection coating to ensure the best optics possible. Moreover, they include 100% UV protection to make sure your child’s eyes are protected from the sun.

The best way to take care of your child’s eyes includes getting lots of time outdoors, where the focus is away from devices and screens. When it is time to do those things up close, encourage your child to take regular breaks to avoid eye strain. Following a regular eye care routine can ensure we catch any changes or issues with your child’s vision early, so they see their best.
