That’s a Wrap! Or should we say “Pack?” Our 2023 Initiative in Support of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa

This summer’s initiative to support The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa and help prepare local kids in need for the 2023-2024 school year was a smash success! During the months of July and August, Merivale Vision Care and Wellington Vision Care donated $10 from each pair of glasses sold to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO). These funds provided backpacks full of school supplies to set up students in need with all the tools they need for a great school year.  

The BGCO provides children and youth across the city with a safe space and free access to life-changing programs designed to drive personal development. They also provide opportunities to ensure each child has a chance to experience summer camp. Please visit the BCGO’s website to read more about their amazing initiatives.  

Unfortunately, local youths in vulnerable areas across our community do not have the means to access all they need to set them up for school. In fact, the need this year was greater than ever before. Here at Merivale Vision Care and Wellington Vision Care, we believe every student - regardless of circumstance - should have the opportunity for a great upcoming school year and have a bright future ahead. Last year, we set up 300 students with backpacks and school supplies. With your help, this year we were able to provide 350 students with their own excellent quality, stylish backpacks filled to the brim with all the supplies they need for a great school experience. We were able to raise almost $12,000.00 for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa!  

Volunteers from our team recently got together for a backpack packing party to fill all 350 of the backpacks with the school supplies for the amazing students who would benefit from the funds we raised from our BCGO initiative. The smiles were incredible as our team filled each bag, and when each student received their backpack. These supplies mean one less worry on their minds as they head into the new school year and everything that comes along with it. If you purchased your glasses with us during July and August, you had a direct, positive impact on local students’ learning and wellbeing for the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you!
