Did you know that on our planet over one billion people cannot see well, simply because they do not have access to glasses and other eye care services? There are over 43 million people in the world who are blind, and over 295 million people who have moderate or severe visual impairment. Of all the people in the world living with blindness, around 90% of them live in low-income countries. These numbers are too high, and no one should have to live this way. Health care interventions that work to restore sight and prevent blindness are among the most cost-effective out there, and 80% of visual impairment is avoidable in the sense that it can either be readily treated or prevented with the appropriate measures.
We celebrated World Sight Day for the whole month of October to bring these issues to light and help close the gap between access to eye care and the best eyesight possible, for everyone everywhere. We have donated $4 from every eye exam for the entire month of October to Optometry Giving Sight. Check out their amazing website here to see all the work they do to bring vision care to people around the globe. We are so proud to share that we will be donating $4036 from our Merivale Vision Care clinic and $804 from our Wellington Vision Care clinic to Optometry Giving Sight. These funds will help to make life-changing eye care accessible to those who need it.
What can you do to take the best care of your eyes? Schedule a visit with your Ottawa Doctor of Optometry to ensure that your eye health is the best it can be. We offer comprehensive health care for your eyes. When you come in for your eye exam, the refraction - or testing for the glasses prescription - is only part of the care you receive. Our eye exams also include retinal scans, visual fields, and Opto-Map imaging for an extensive look at the inside of your eye. We can also add a contact lens fitting to your exam, so you have the option for both glasses and contact lenses. We can also help your eyes with visits to our specialty Dry Eye Clinic and our sister office Ottawa Vision Therapy. After your visit with your Ottawa Doctor of Optometry, be sure to see one of our amazing Dispensers in our optical boutique to select new sunglasses and stylish specs that suit you best! If you visited us during Op-tober for your eye exam, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts because you helped to make eye care accessible for all.
